Shahreena Shahrani is the Middle East and Islamic Studies Information and Resource Specialist at The Ohio State University Libraries. She earned her MA and PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures from The Ohio State University. Her research interests include contemporary Arab youth cultures, Arab and Kurdish cinema, and contemporary Arabic literature.

Her work spans teaching, curriculum design, and public engagement. She has developed and delivered presentations on the cultures, histories, and geopolitics of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for academic, public, and U.S. government audiences, and has organized speaker series and public events that promote cross-cultural understanding. She has also taught courses on multimedia for online language instruction, MENA regional and cultural studies, Arabic literature and culture, and Islamic literature in translation. 

At Ohio State Libraries, she supports teaching, learning, and research through collection development, research consultations, library instruction, and outreach. She collaborates

with faculty, students, and campus partners to build and promote resources that support innovative, interdisciplinary, and globally engaged scholarship on the Middle East and the broader Islamic world.

Beyond her work in libraries and higher education, she has served as a writer and cultural consultant in the gaming industry, contributing to projects for Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder Second Edition, and Starfinder. Drawing on her scholarly expertise, she reimagines Middle East-inspired settings and narratives for global audiences, bringing nuanced perspectives on culture, history, and representation to widely accessible forms of public-facing media.
