Yücel Yanikdağ to present “Sacrifice, ‘Fatalism’ (Tevakkül), and Masculinity: Morale and Motivation in the Ottoman First World War"

This lecture marks the inaugural Department of History Lecture in Ottoman and Turkish History.

Professor Yanikdağ, Associate Professor of History and International Studies, University of Richmond, received his PhD from Ohio State, and is the author of Healing the Nation: Prisoners of War, Medicine, and Nationalism in Turkey, 1914-1939 (Edinburgh, 2013). He is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on the Ottoman Empire’s experience in World War I.

After the talk, there will be a reception at The Faculty Club for all who attend.
