Literacy in Translation Series: Translating Sacred Texts

February 27, 2015
2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
University Museum, 143 University Hall

LiteracyStudies@OSU continues its series on reading and writing in translation with a workshop on translating sacred texts, organized and moderated by Naomi Brenner (Near East Languages and Cultures):

What are some of the challenges in translating sacred texts?  Professor Bilal Orfali and Professor Sam Meier will present short passages from the Qu'ran and the Bible in which the translation of a specific word or concept is in some way difficult or contested. The workshop will reflect on both the details and the larger implications of translating texts sacred in different traditions. Read more.

Faculty, staff, and students with an interest in reading and writing across languages, domains, and media are invited to attend.
