Anwar Al Attar was a Syrian romance and nature Poet who was greatly influenced by French Romanticism, the medieval Arab poet Al Buhtori (9th century), and Egyptian poet Ahmed Shawqi (1868-1932). Many of his poems dealt with themes of philosophy, nationalism, patriotism, history, religion, divine love, praise, lament, and sophisim. Anwar Al Attar only lived until 59, but he left an important legacy in his poetry and prose. His son Hani Al Attar compiled and published his two-volume complete works in 2020, Zilal Al Ayyam ظلال الأيام, and Quartettes Life Taught Me رباعيات أنور العطَّار علمتني الحياة.     Hani Al Attar is the son of Anwar Al Attar. Born in Damascus in 1949, he earned a BA in English literature from Damascus University. He left Syria in 1979 and worked in Saudi Arabia for 38 years before enjoying retirement in Columbus, OH. Anwar Al Attar

 

 In this lecture, Hani Al Attar will present the poems and life of his father, the poet Anwar Al Attar (1913-1972). Anwar Al Attar was a Syrian romance and nature Poet who was greatly influenced by French Romanticism, the medieval Arab poet Al Buhtori (9th century), and Egyptian poet Ahmed Shawqi (1868-1932).
