Film: Midnight Traveler (Hassan Fazili, 2019)
When the Taliban puts a bounty on director Hassan Fazili’s head, he is forced to flee Afghanistan with his wife and two young daughters. Filmed on the family’s iPhones during their migration, Midnight Traveler offers a rare first-person perspective on the dangers refugees face when seeking asylum. While documenting the hatred they encounter in many of the countries where they try to make a new home, the film is all the more remarkable for also capturing moving displays of love shared by a family on the run. (90 mins., DCP)
