Crossing Invisible Borders:
A Workshop with Raymond Bobgan, initiator of Masrah Cleveland Al Arabi, Ohio’s first Arabic Theatre
Join NELC and the Department of Dance for a participatory workshop led by Raymond Bobgan. Bobgan will guide us through the devising techniques that Cleveland Public Theatre and Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi use to create original plays based on community members’ perspectives, shared narratives, and imagination. All are welcome!
Raymond Bobgan creates new performances that are bold, multilayered, and highly physical through an ever-evolving ensemble process. He is Executive Artistic Director at Cleveland Public Theatre, where he initiated the formation of Teatro Público de Cleveland, CPT’s resident Latinx/a/o theatre company, Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi مسرح كليفلاند العربي, a group dedicated to creating and performing theatre from Arabic-speaking communities, and Station Hope, a community arts festival exploring contemporary issues of social justice. Raymond founded the Student Theatre Enrichment Program. His work has been featured in numerous publications and performed in Romania, Brazil, Denmark, Serbia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Following the workshop there will be a luncheon and informal discussion with Raymond in Hagerty Hall 306 from 1p-2p.
