This talk will discuss the discovery and decipherment of two new sets of pre-Islamic Greek-Arabic (Safaitic) bilingual inscriptions from northern Jordan and the important role they play in reconstructing the activities of Roman military units in this peripheral area of the Empire, focusing on the Persian threat to the east, the Nabataeans, and marauding nomadic groups from North Arabia.
