Arabic Inscriptions from the Khaybar Oasis
In this talk, NESA PhD student Cody Beasley will present his research on the newly-documented and yet unpublished Arabic inscriptions of the Khaybar oasis. The presentation will focus on a statistical overview of the formulae that appear in the corpus of premodern Arabic inscriptions from the oasis. Through a close analysis of individual inscriptions, he offers several observations about the importance of this corpus both for the history of the oasis and the history of the Arabic language and script. For a full abstract, please contact Carrie McDonald (mcdonald.181@osu.edu). The presentation will last 30 minutes, with the remaining time devoted to questions and open discussion.
