This is the inaugural presentation of the "2024-2025 Intimacy, Intersectionality, Identity: Gender, Empire, and Everyday Lives" Seminar Series.

This event is a discussion of a chapter on "The Colonial Nursery" from Dr. Sen's book manuscript, "The Hierarchy-Intimacy Paradox: Everyday Interracial Relationships in British India (1800-1915)." The presentation is an exploration of the many complexities of everyday colonial lives through a story of British children with their Indian servants.

Dr. Sucharita Sen is a Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellow in the Ohio State University Department of History.

This series is supported by the Department of History, the Mershon Center, the Department of Near Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures, the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and the South Asian Studies Initiative.
